Memorial Day is observed in the United States on the last Monday of May to honour and remember American soldiers who died while serving in the military. It is a solemn national holiday, but also marks the unofficial start of summer with barbecues, beach trips, and family gatherings.
In 2025, Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 26.
Memorial Day is somewhat similar to Remembrance Day on the 4th of May in the Netherlands, when the Dutch commemorate those who died during war and peacekeeping missions.
